第五十六化、《付鬼林》

秦始皇封禅泰山,为老君盖庙。亲制祝文曰:“大道泛兮,其可左右。老君去则西游,反则东
顾。朕方有事蓬瀛,愿垂影响。”这个中国第一位皇帝很懂道。他说,大道是无形的,人怎么
左右无形呢。老君去则西游,指的神出去了,去了彼岸世界,反则东顾,是神又回到肉身,
来到此岸物质世界。秦始皇寻长生妙药,希望老君指点。果然,老君降临在皇宫,秦始皇万
分惊喜,罄折求道。老君笑而不答,命授以《鬼林经》、策役鬼神之符,之后消失了。这说的
是法身可以指使鬼神办事,通过无形,作用到有形的物质世界。

Qin Shi Huang---the first emperor of Qin worshiped Heaven and Earth on Mount Tai
and set up a temple for Laojun. He wrote by himself that “Tao is everywhere up
and down. Laojun goes to the West and returns to the East. I have business in
Peng Ying and wish to be guided.” This first emperor of China had a deep insight.
He meant that Tao was invisible and cannot be grasped by human. Laojun going to
the West actually refers to spirit going out to the divine realm, while returning
to the East means spirit back to the body of the physical world. Qin Shi Huang
was pursuing the elixir of life and hoped to receive guidance from Laojun.
As expected, he was amazed to see Laojun’s advent in the palace and asked in
humility to practice Tao. Laojun laughed without any words, and then disappeared
after imparting the Scripture of Guilin and the method to drive the ghosts and
fairies. This picture implies that Fa Shen can drive the ghosts and fairies, and
influence the visible physical world through the invisible.
