                                                                                             Fifty-seventh, "Explain Tao Te"
                                                                                    oil on canvas, 120 × 90cm, August 18, 2016

The Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty invited He Shang Gong to discuss about Tao Te

Ching. He Shang Gong said, Tao can only be pursued with sincerity and cannot be
delivered. The emperor came in person and told, “Although you have Tao, you are

still my people” He Shang Gong hovered several feet off the ground and said, “I
am not in the sky, not on the ground, and not troubling anyone. How can I be your
people?” This speaks of Fa Shen, which is beyond everything. Only Yuan Shen is

able to truly understand Tao Te Ching, so He Shang Gong must be a re-born person
with achieved Tao. How to explain Tao Te in this picture? Only those with Fa Shen

are able to have Tao Te.
