Seventy-nine, "Illuminate the cliffs"
oil on canvas, 120 × 90cm, September 7, 2016
In the period of Emperor Wenzong of Tang, the provincial governor of Lang Zhou,
when touring on Jialingjiang River nine Chinese miles away from Lang Zhou, he
passed by a hill and suddenly saw unusual light glimpsing between the cliffs. He
approached to observe and found the image of Laojun was engraved on the stone
by nature. Standing by Laojun was a boy in robe holding a censer with burning
incense, and following Laojun was a little boy with double tufts of hair tied up,
looking obeyed and respectful. These images can hardly be engraved by human power.
The boy following Laojun has a robe. From the perspective of practice, this means
that the devotion to Tao can accumulate merits.
